David Lewis

I have spent almost 30 years involved in Tax Investigations. After qualifying as an Inspector of Taxes at the old Inland Revenue, I spent over twenty years in a variety of senior roles across HM Revenue & Customs. This included working for Large Business, FIS (Fraud Investigation Service), and in Central Policy, where I was responsible for a wide scope of tax administrative powers and safeguards, with an emphasis on information powers and penalties.

My final role was as the Head of High Net Worth Unit / Wealthy in Nottingham.

I then joined Mazars in private practice in 2018, where I ultimately came to lead and grow the Tax Disputes Resolution team. In 2025, I joined the existing and highly successful BDO Tax Disputes team as a Partner. My current focus is to build and grow the team’s presence outside London, increasingly working with both corporate and private clients based in cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, and Leeds.
